"White Fences Vineyard (804-761-4866) is a relatively new addition to the area, but it's already added a thoroughly entertaining annual event to Irvington's town calendar. The Irvington Stomp, a grape-stomping harvest festival, takes place this year on Saturday, Sept. 3. Dance on barrels of grapes to the tune of live beach music, while also enjoying tethered hot air balloon rides above the vineyard, farm animals, a petting zoo, face painting, hay rides, delicious barbecue and the vineyard's first-ever batch of wine." -Katherine Houstoun from Richmond.com's ONE TANK TRIPS: Irvington: "Do Nothing, or Do It All"
Richmond.com features a cool page: ONE TANK TRIPS at http://www.richmond.com/travel/index.aspx.
When gas prices aren't astronomical, this is usually a good deal and still could be if you get a group and carpool. There may be an entrance fee to partake of the wine and stomping festivities. But it's all for the fun of smushing grapes between your toes, right??

Oh my gosh, I am definitely checking out that article, "One Tank Trips." I am always on the lookout for cool things to do in the area.
I would LOVE to participate in a wine stomp!
So on that enthusiastic note, more wine stomping can be found on the virginiawines.org 2005 Festival & Tour Guide. Indispensable, if you ask me. This is the next wine stomp coming up in Virginny:
September 17 - Moonlight Stomp
AmRhein Wine Cellars presents their 5th Annual Moonlight Stomp. This is one of our most popular events of the year! Join us under the harvest moon to celebrate the upcoming harvest. Stomp grapes "I Love Lucy" style, sip award-winning Virginia-style wines, and roast marshmallows by a toasty bonfire. Remember the event by getting a caricature drawing. Join in with local musicians while they sing songs around the bonfire. VA Pork BBQ dinner available for a fee. Bring a blanket, jacket and chairs. Admission $10/person includes souvenir glass. Twisted Vines Wine Club members receive free admission. Event begins at 4p.m. Info: 540-929-4632. E-mail: kelleyroanokewine@juno.com. Website: www.roanokewine.com
